1. Who we are

Bright Light Fireworks is a retail fireworks business selling from two shops: 163 Pear Tree Road, Derby, DE23 8NQ, and Ironville Post Office, 1 Market Street, Ironville, Nottingham, NG16 5NJ. In these terms “we”, “us” and “our” mean Bright Light Fireworks, and “you” means the person buying from us.

2. This website is not a shop

This site is a catalogue. It shows what we stock and roughly what it costs. It is not an offer to sell, you cannot buy through it, and nothing on it forms a contract. All sales happen in person at the counter.

We try to keep the range and availability accurate, but stock moves quickly in season. Availability shown here is a guide, so ring us before making a special trip.

3. Age restrictions

It is a criminal offence to sell adult fireworks to anyone under 18. We operate a Challenge 25 policy: if you look under 25 we will ask for photographic ID, and we will refuse the sale without it. Acceptable ID is a passport, a UK photocard driving licence, or a PASS-accredited card.

We will also refuse any sale where we reasonably believe the fireworks are being bought on behalf of someone under 18, or where the buyer appears intoxicated.

4. Prices and payment

Prices are as marked in the shop at the time of purchase and include VAT. Prices shown on this website are indicative and may change without notice. Payment is due in full at the time of purchase. We do not offer credit accounts or reserve stock without payment.

5. Refunds, returns and your rights

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If a firework is faulty, tell us as soon as you reasonably can and bring it back with proof of purchase. We will repair, replace or refund it as the Act requires.

For safety and legal reasons we cannot accept returns of fireworks that are simply unwanted, that have been opened, or that have been stored somewhere we cannot verify. This does not affect your rights in respect of faulty goods.

The 14-day cancellation right that applies to distance and online sales does not apply here, because you are buying in person in our shop.

6. Safe use

Fireworks are explosives. You are responsible for using them safely and lawfully, following the instructions printed on each item and the minimum spectator distances marked on them. Please read our safety guidance before your display.

We are not liable for injury, damage or loss caused by fireworks being used contrary to the printed instructions, the law, or reasonable care. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

7. The law on setting fireworks off

Under the Fireworks Regulations 2004 it is an offence to set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am, except until midnight on 5 November and until 1am on New Year’s Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year. It is also an offence to set fireworks off in a public place, including the street.

8. Storage and transport

Once fireworks leave the shop they are your responsibility. Transport them in the boot, never in the passenger compartment, and store them in a closed box somewhere cool, dry and out of reach of children.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your purchase is the one displayed in the shop on the day you buy.

10. Law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute.
